NASA finally picks Flagbearer

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has finally settled on their presidential candidate.

NASA principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula, Musalia Mudavadi and Raila Odinga

The committee has also proposed the creation of chief Minister which will be occupied by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi while Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula, will be given the influential position of Speaker of the National Assembly if the Opposition wins the August 8 General Election.

NASA’s National Coordinating Committee made its decision on Tuesday and will present the report to the four principals on Thursday afternoon, the Star reports.

However, Odinga, Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Wetangula will now choose whether to accept the committee’s proposal or turn it down

“We are now done. We sat until 12 am on Tuesday. But we are happy about our report,” one of the members of the committee told a local daily.

The committee which made the decision included: economist Dr David Ndii, Nairobi University professor Dr Adams Oloo, Kabarak University law professor Elisha Ongoya, a former member of the now-defunct Constitution of Kenya Review Commission Abubakar Zein and ex-Mumias Sugar Company chairman Dan Ameyo.

The Wiper Party had announced that it would walk out of NASA if Kalonzo was not picked the presidential candidate.

National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze had declared that ODM must adhere to the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) where Odinga was to back Kalonzo in 2017.

“If it is not Kalonzo, that will be the end of NASA… It could change into something like Nyanza Super Alliance, because we will pull out," Nyenze warned prior to the decision.
