Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth has sparked more confusion in the Jubilee Party after claiming that there is no rift among Jubilee aspirants in Nairobi eyeing the gubernatorial seat.

Kenneth, who was speaking after presenting his nomination papers at Jubilee headquarters, stated that having different teams in Nairobi did not mean that they were divided, contrary to what has been witnessed in the recent past.

“We, as the Jubilee team, are one team and we will square it out in the nominations with a common goal to remove Dr Kidero. Having diversity in the team does not mean we are divided,” said Mr Kenneth.

The 2013 presidential aspirant is gunning for the Jubilee ticket against “Team Nairobi” which is led by Senator Mike Sonko.

Sonko has previously termed Kenneth as an outsider in the race to dethrone Kidero, adding the he has never supported President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Sonko is being backed by nominated MP Johnson Sakaja, MP Dennis Waweru and Bishop Margret Wanjiru.

Kenneth was accompanied by Rachel Shebesh (woman representative), MPs Maina Kamanda (Starehe), George Theuri (Embakasi West), Stephen Kariuki (Mathare) and nominated MP Sonia Bardi, who are all backing his bid.

“Most Nairobi MPs are supporting Peter Kenneth, not because the others gunning for governor are our enemies, but because we believe he is the best,” Mr Kamanda stated.

In 2016, the President urged Kenneth and Sonko’s team to unite if they wanted to dethrone incumbent Evans Kidero instead of fighting among themselves.

Pundits have argued that the infighting between Sonko and Kenneth could hand ODM the seat. Meanwhile, NASA politicians are said to have skipped a fundraiser organized by Governor Kidero for his re-election bid.
