Raila to accept defeat only under 2 conditions

The NASA flag bearer is ready to accept defeat in the August 8 polls if only these 2 conditions are met.

National Super Alliance (NASA) Raila Odinga has said that he will only concede defeat in the general elections if all voters are identified through biometrics and Al-Ghurair company does not print presidential ballot papers.

Speaking during an interview, the Opposition leader said that he will accept defeat if the two conditions are met.

“If the EVIDS [electronic voter identification devices] function properly that will eliminate the possibility of ghost voters and dead voters resurrecting, voting and then going back to their graves.”

“If we can get assurance from IEBC that is not going to be the case and that nobody is going to vote unless they are identified biometrically, then we will accept the results,” Raila said.

He asked why the IEBC was so determined to have Al-Ghurair firm print the presidential ballot papers; saying that the company is improperly associated with the President’s family.

NASA had earlier won a case which saw the High Court quash the tender to print Presidential ballot papers by the Dubai-based firm, saying there was inadequate public participation.

IEBC however said that it would need at least 50 days to tender afresh, meaning the August 8 election would have to be postponed.

Raila’s words come at a time when he has been under pressure from President Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party which asked him to publicly declare whether he is ready to accept the Presidential result should he lose.

He said that it will only take a miracle for Jubilee to win in the polls.

‘”The country is tired of the Jubilee regime, the country is going to speak very loudly on August 8,” the flag bearer said.
