According to the Star, Uhuru called Sonko immediately after he clinched the Jubilee ticket for Nairobi and assured him of his support after beating Peter Kenneth.

The president, after the talks with Sonko, decided to find him a sober-minded person who could help him run the capital.

The Head of State asked secretary Jomo Gecaga and Solicitor General Njee Muturi to oversee the recruitment of a strong manager for him. After interviewing five candidates for the position at State House, they finally settled on the Vivo MD.

"The team has been working in secrecy for some days after Uhuru ordered them to search for Sonko's running mate,” a source told a local daily.

The source added,” "It was clear the President was keen on the next deputy governor."

The team finally settled on Igathe, who holds a BA in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi and the current MD of Vivo energy limited. He also advises the President on matters energy.

Sonko announced on Tuesday that he had settled on Igathe as his running mate and will now face incumbent Evans Kidero during the August 8 election.
