Rosemary Odinga, who was eying the Kibra Parliamentary seat, announced this following her health condition which saw her flown to South Africa for treatment.

“It is following my doctor’s advice, that for the time being, I will continue serving my community in other capacities and regrettably bow out of the race for Member of Parliament,” she said.

This official declaration came days after her name was reported to be missing in the list of Nairobi parliamentary aspirants to contest in the Orange Party primaries.

Rosemary divulged that she had suffered a mild stroke, a statement that contradicted her father, who earlier condemned the Standard newspaper for publishing the cause of her hospitalization.

"I was in Naivasha for a short break, where I suddenly suffered a stroke and I was airlifted to Nairobi where they performed surgery,” Ms Odinga said.

Earlier Odinga told the country: "The story is a fraudulent exercise of journalism, which attempts to pass fictitious suppositions of the writer on the medical condition of Rosemary Odinga and on the position of the Odinga family on matters surrounding her health and career as truths”.

The former Prime Minister’s daughter fell ill in February.

After receiving treatment in Aga Khan and Nairobi hospitals, she was flown to South Africa for further treatment.

Close family members indicated that Rosemary had complained of persistent migraines that made her go to the hospital for CT scan.

Medical reports divulged that Ms Odinga had developed a non-cancerous tumor that was causing pressure to her brain.
