Uhuru speaks on the latest Sonko-Peter Kenneth spat

Sonko is fighting over the ticket with Peter Kenneth whom he thinks is being favoured by the party.

In a live televised interview Monday evening shortly after the release of Infotrak polls showing Evans Kidero leading closely trailed by the incumbent senator Mike Sonko, Uhuru distanced himself from earlier claims that he was favoring the election of former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth to lead the Jubilee brigade to the elections in August and clinch the highly coveted seat.

Uhuru, however, said he will be available as an “honest broker” in case any of the aspirants reach out to him.

In Nairobi, the President said he wants a Jubilee member as governor.

“What we are looking for is for our party to win and get a Nairobi governor, and I respectfully ask wananchi to please give us a Jubilee governor in Nairobi. Whoever it will be, wananchi will decide,” he said.

Peter Kenneth, Margaret Wanjiru, Dennis Waweru and Mike Sonko have presented their nomination papers to the Uhuru Kenyatta led Jubilee Party and are set to battle out in the April nominations to present one candidate for the seat.

Last week, Senator Mike Sonko exposed details related to a plot by the party to lock him out of the nominations, holding a view that Peter Kenneth was the preferred candidate, after the Directorate of Criminal Investigation delayed to issue him with the clearance certificate to enable him present his papers.

Nairobi politics is currently influenced by two political factions; one belonging to Sonko and another to Peter Kenneth.

‘Team Nairobi’ faction, currently out to unseat incumbent Kidero, is made up of Senator Mike Sonko, former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja and Dagoretti MP Dennis Waweru, who are all in Jubilee.
