Emotional send off for Likoni ferry tragedy victims as Sonko fulfills pledge he made victims’ family

The burial service for the victims of the Likoni ferry tragedy is underway in Makueni with Nairobi governor Mike Sonko fulfilling a pledge he made to John Wambua, the husband to Mariam Kighenda who perished in the Likoni ferry tragedy on 29 September 2019 alongside her daughter Amanda Mutheu.

The Nairobi county boss deployed his Sonko Rescue Team to aid with the burial arrangements and provided a hearse to transport the bodies of the deceased from Jocham Hospital Mortuary in Mombasa to Makueni County.

A burial service for the victims is currently underway with a contingent of Sonko Rescue Team crew on the ground to assist.

Scores of mourners lined up to pay their last respects after the bodies arrived at Kima Technical College in Makueni County on Saturday.

“We have agreed with those in charge of the burial arrangements to transport the bodies and play any other possible role in the burial arrangements,” Sonko averred.

The two victims of ferry tragedy will be laid to rest today at their Ngaamba home in Makueni.
