Exclusive: Why Moses Kuria has canceled urgent press conference

Reasons given

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria

A press conference which was called by Gatundu South Member of Parliament has been cancelled.

A representative of the lawmaker who spoke to Pulselive.co.ke said that the decision to cancel was due to "unforseen circumstances and pressure coming from elsewhere".

Last minute

Journalists who had started arriving at the venue were informed of the last minute call with no further explanations given.

Mr Kuria was holding the presser barely hours after a section of Mt Kenya leaders called out other leaders for allegedly disrespecting the President.

Former Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth led the group which defended President Uhuru Kenyatta from attacks by a section of MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

The leaders defended President Kenyatta’s development track record, which Mr Kuria had questioned, and accused a section of leaders of politicizing development with the intention of replacing Kenyatta as the region’s king pin.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu directed his attack on Mr Kuria, saying those addressing the President should not do so in a disrespectful manner.

On Tuesday, Waititu lashed out at MPs telling them they lacked manners for disrespecting the president in the manner they asked for development projects.

"Sio lazima upige nduru na uite magazeti ndio uongee na rais... that is wrong and that is lack of manners, that is lack of manners, yes, why don't you come when the President is here? Hio ni tabia mbaya," he added.

Kuria had stated, on new years eve, that President Kenyatta had neglected the Mount Kenya region in the government’s development agenda.
