Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa’s frequent attacks targeting Raila Odinga landed him in trouble on Saturday.

Echesa found himself in the thick of things after he attempted to drag Raila Odinga into the woes facing the sugar industry with the crowd telling him off.

“Yule mtu ameshika kengele ya kuuza viwanda zote za mumias na viwanda zote za mkoa wa magharibi sio mtu mwingine ni Raila Amolo Odinga It is Raila Odinga who has been pushing for the sale of all other industries in Western Kenya.)" Echesa said.

The visibly agitated crowd cut him short with jeers and heckles, prompting him to cut short his speech.

Rachel Ruto is no stranger to making bold yet elegant fashion statements, but during the state visit of the Dutch royals on March 18, 2025, it wasn’t just her outfit that stood out—it was her shoes. The Kenyan First Lady stepped out in a pair of brown suede block heels adorned with a gold emblem.

The crowd accused the former CS of playing politics and to remain relevant at a time when his career is on the decline.

Before the interruption, Echesa had accused Odinga of being behind the looming plans to privatize all sugar millers.

The industry has been on its death bed with influx of cheap imports with farmers going unpaid for several months.

Previous attempts to revive the industry has not yielded the desired results despite billions pumped in by the government.

Plans are underway to privatize all millers in the country, a move that is vehemently opposed by sugar farmers.

Sugar Veterans Consultative Forum (Suveco) Secretary Priver Toywa stated that "Privatising the mills will disenfranchise farmers because decisions will be based on maximising profits at the expense of local farmers and communities".
