Doctors strike overshadows the 4th annual devolution conference launch

The conference is running from 7 to 9 March and this year’s theme is “Devolution – Transforming Lives: Tell Your Story!”

 

The conference is running from 7 to 9 March and this year’s theme is “Devolution – Transforming Lives: Tell Your Story!” School children’s and other players have been invited to narrate their experiences since devolution come into effect in 2013.

According to the council of Governors, the overall objective of the conference will be to safeguard the gains, enhance the understanding and appreciation of devolution as a system of governance that focuses on public accountability and learning new ways of socio-economic development and delivering services.

"The Fourth Annual Devolution conference will continue to provide a platform to celebrate and take stock on achievements of devolution, listen to the voices on the impact on Devolution, to interrogate the negative narrative about devolution and to seek to entrench the positive dialogue about devolution," said cog chairman Peter Munya.

The conference comes at a critical time when the country is facing an health crisis. Doctors Strike enters day 92 with no sign of ending anytime soon.

With the adoption of 2013 constitution, Health become a devolved function and apart from a few counties like Bomet county majority of counties have dragged their feet in fully taking over the health docket.

Kinuthia Mbugua, the governor of Nakuru will play host and is expected to welcome at least 6000 delegates including the President, Cabinet Secretaries, Governors, Senators, Members of County Assemblies and business leaders.

Business is expected to boom for the two days event and hotels have already recorded full bookings as different stakeholders troop to Nakuru county.
