Wajir North legislator Ahmed Ibrahim was among a census convoy that was ambushed by gunmen on Thursday night.
Reports indicated that the convoy was attacked by unknown assailants at Masalale town, Eldas sub-county.
Mr Ibrahim together with the census convoy managed to escape unhurt but their vehicle was torched during the Thursday night attack.
The group had just arrived in the area when they heard the sound of gunshots rent the air forcing them to flee.
This attack comes barely a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi assured Kenyans that security personnel have been deployed across the country ahead of the Census.
