Homabay Man commits suicide during public fight with girlfriend

A public fight between two lovers ended in tragedy afer the 33-year-old man committed suicide diring the fight.

Tobias Oteno reportedly chose to end his life after stabbing his girlfriend who was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Reports indicate that Otieno who works as a carpenter at Rodi Kopany had recently reunited with his girlfriend and visited her on the fateful day at a food kiosk.

An argument ensued, resulting in a physical fight during which he drew a knife and stabbed his girlfriend in the stomach. at Rodi Kopany bus stop.

An angry crowd that witnessed the fight and was angered by his actions moved in threatening to take matters into their hands.

It is at this point that the deceased is reported to have stabbed himself severally.

Area Chief Fredrick Onyango, stated that the man got scared when the crowd threatened to lynch him after stabbing his girlfriend.

“The man stabbed himself in the stomach repeatedly before he collapsed and died,” said Onyango.

"The crowd tried to intervene when they saw the man trying to kill his girlfriend,” added a witness.

The administrator confirmed that the deceased may have planned to end his life i advane, adding that he had bought a pesticide which he was planning to drink and end his life after assaulting the woman.

“He had a knife when he went to visit his girlfriend. At his workplace, he left some poisonous substance, it seems he was planning to harm his girlfriend and later end his life,” said Mr Onyango.

Investigations have been launched into the incident with the body of the deceased moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary.
