Details have emerged that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s chief of Staff, Joseph Kinyua, is among the people behind a plot to have Auditor-General Edward Ouko sacked.

The revelations were brought light on Thursday after Ouko questioned why he was not invited to a meeting of the National Assembly’s Finance and Trade Committee and Mr Kinyua.

In the said meeting, Mr Kinyua is said to have presented a petition to have the Auditor General removed from office. The AG questioned on whose authority Mr Kinyua appeared at the meeting or whom he was representing.

“Specifically, we have been advised that Mr Joseph Kinyua, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet, may have appeared and presented a memorandum to the committee,” mr Ouko stated.

The embattled auditor general disclosed that he had not been notified of when to testify which was against the law.

“Contrary to expectations as stated in the Fair Administrative Action Act that a person would be notified on who will appear to testify, when they would testify, whether they would testify in support or objection to the petition, copies of the submissions and documents produced, the right to be present during testimony, and the right to cross-examine, I have not been advised on any appearance by anyone,” said Mr Ouko.

Mr Ouko is being probed after a Nairobi lawyer, Emmanuel Mwagambo Mwagonah, filed a petition seeking his removal from his office on grounds of corruption and misuse of office.
