Interior Ministry Spokesperson Wangui Muchiri on Tuesday responded to Pulselive.co.ke on reports that Monday August 12, 2019 would be gazetted as a public holiday.
Wangui, who did not want to give a final position on the matter, clarified that CS Fred Matiang'i was yet to conclude discussions on the Eid Ul Adha celebrations.
A source privy to the discussions, however, stated that there was a high likelihood that the CS would gazette the day as a public holiday.
Chief Kadhi Sheikh Ahmed Sharif Muhdhar told reporters that CS Matiang;i was set to gazette the Muslim celebration as a public holiday.
CS Matiang'i gazetted Eid ul Adha as public holiday
In 2018, CS Matiang'i published a gazette notice declaring a public holiday for the commemoration of the same holiday.
The noticed was published with only three days to the actual day which has made Kenyans online to speculate that he may make the official announcement at the end of this week.
The Eid-ul-Hajj / Eid-ul-Adha is used to mark the culmination of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the holy city for Muslims.
The journey to Mecca is mandatory for all faithfuls at least once in one's lifetime as long as one is able to do so.
