Matiang’i accused Governor Ongwae of always following him around whenever he attends public functions in Kisii County.
During a recent public function at a local church in Nyaribari Masaba, the animosity between the two most senior men from the Gusii community played out after they clashed publicly after the event at the Masimba Parish where Matiang’i was the chief guest.
Soon after Matiang’i arrived at the event accompanied by a dozen Gusii professionals, Governor Ongwae was seen enetering the church along with Senator Janet Ongera as well as aspiring Kisii Senatorial candidate and former powerful minister Sam Ongeri.
This prompted Matiang'i to leave the church after he had presented his donation and quickly left for Nyanturago Secondary School playground where Jubilee leaders led by Senator Chris Obure were attending a rally.
He was followed by various school heads and professionals to the rally.
"Plan your own meetings!"
Matiang'i later took the opportunity to blast Governor Ongwae saying the county boss should organise their own functions instead of following him around in events he had been invited for.
"I don't know them. Who are they? We had not planned the meeting and I have no business waiting for them," he said.
However in a swift rejoinder, the Kisii County Communications Director Maseme Machuka said the governor had also been invited to the church meeting and the county boss had no business following the Education Cabinet Secretary.
The exchanges bore resemblance to last month's altercation between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
President Kenyatta blasted Joho with the now viral phrase "I'm not your wife, so stop following me around!"
