Jubilee and ODM will have the first election face-off in Wajir West since the handshake between their respective party leaders – President Uhuru Kenyatta and AU high-representative for infrastructure Raila Odinga.

The by-election was ordered by the Supreme Court after it nullified the election of former MP Mohamed Kolosh.

Kolosh has since defected to defected to Jubilee which handed him a direct ticket to defend his seat.

While announcing his defection, Kolosh said his move was purely driven by the request of the local voters and that he continued to have a good working relationship with ODM.

However, ODM on Thursday announced its candidate, Prof Yusuf Mohamed Elmi, laying the ground for the two parties to face-off in the April-25th by-election.

Interestingly, Kanu, whose leader Gideon Moi has cordial relations with Odinga and Kenyatta, will also be fielding a candidate – Ibrahim Sheikh.

Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya will field Daudi Muhammed Ali.

Jubilee did not field candidates in the Migori senatorial and in the ongoing Embakasi South parliamentary election, the explanation being that it was a gesture made in the spirit of the handshake.
