Multichoice has responded to last week’s ban on 6 cartoons on its Pay-tv service provider DSTV.

In a statement sent to P Live, the South African-based company has suspended the six cartoons which the Kenya Films and Classifications Board (KFCB) termed as promoting "homosexuality."

The firm said that they had briefed the three channels, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Nicktoons, on the recent complaints made against their shows.

“In tandem with our internal quality control measures, we also ensure all third party suppliers are adequately briefed on country specific regulatory requirements and provisions. MultiChoice has therefore contacted the Channel Suppliers on the various recent complaints made against the Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Nicktoons channels with regards to their programming,” read part of the statement.

Turner Broadcasting (which operates Cartoon Network) and Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, (which runs Nickelodeon and Nicktoons) both acknowledged the customers’ concerns with VIMN stating that they’d suspend the shows with immediate effect.

“We acknowledge the concerns expressed by customers. While we explore a variety of options, we will suspend the shows in question in Africa.”

“Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa and Nickelodeon Africa are committed to diversity and inclusiveness, VIMN also respects the varied cultures and regulatory codes of the markets in which we operate,” read VIMN’s statement.

KFCB banned the airing of the six cartoons, namely Loud House, The Legend of the Korra, Hey Arnold, Clarance, Steven Universe and Adventure Time terming as shows that “glorify homosexual behavior.”
