According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) the suspects asked for the Sh1 million bribe to facilitate the reduction of tax liability for a business enterprise in Mwea town.
EACC said the suspects had already collected Sh550, 000 from the unnamed businessman. KRA investigators then set a trap that led to the arrest of George Kimani Gachuki who had gone to collect the remaining Sh450, 000.
“A report was received last week on Thursday that a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) official from Embu was demanding for a bribe of Sh1, 000, 000 from a business enterprise in Mwea town, Kirinyaga County. The second suspect Stephen Wameyo Okello was also arrested for working with Gachoki and other officers, who are still being investigated.
