Government waives survey and land registration fees for all public schools

Prof Kaimenyi said the move would help schools to get the title deeds for their pieces of land with ease.

The Government has waived Survey and land registration fees for all schools in the country, Lands and Physical Planning CS Prof Jacob Kaimenyi has said.

He said lack of vital land documents had in the past led to grabbing of land belonging to schools.

The Lands Secretary spoke in Taita Taveta County when he accompanied the Deputy President, Mr William Ruto, during  issuance of  title deeds in the region.

The lands CS said 2.4 million title deeds have been processed since the Jubilee administration came to power. Some 600,000 more are to be processed by June 2017 he added.

Legal land documents

Prof Kaimenyi said that the land documents are legal, legitimate and valid and not fake as claimed by certain individuals.

He said survey and registration fees for 800 beneficiaries of the local Ziwani settlement scheme titles had been waived.

The National Land Commission Chairman Muhammad Swazuri said action will be taken against people who have grabbed land belonging to schools, markets and hospitals in the county.

Taita-Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo and MPs Naomi Shaban and Gideon Mung’aro hailed the Government administration for issuing title deeds to Coast residents. Local residents said they had suffered for long due to lack of the documents.

The Coast region has been cited as leading in the number of squatters, the landless and land problems in the country.
