5 Kenyan children killed in deadly explosion

Tragic

The minors aged between 12 and 17 years were toying with the grenade which they found in a grazing field.

Confirming the report, Banisa Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Mathias Chisambo divulged that the children found the grenade on Wednesday and were playing with it from then until it exploded on Thursday evening at around 6 pm.

"They picked up the device on Wednesday and played with it until it exploded on Thursday evening," Chisambo said.

Earlier, it was speculated that some of the children could have been from Ethiopia but Chisambo noted: “ I can confirm that they are all Kenyans contrary to earlier reports that some might be Ethiopians".

Kiliweheri MCA Bashir Ibrahim claimed that the grenade could have been a property of Britain adding that the community will be moving to court to sue the foreign Government.

“It is unfortunate that the colonial masters left behind these dangerous objects that continue to kill our people and living many others either disabled or with permanent marks.

“We have heard enough of this and as a community we will be moving to court to sue the British government and demand for compensation." Ibrahim was quoted by the Star.
