IG Boinnett says forcing UoN students to frog jump was part of 'calming the situation'

IG Boinnett was responding to allegations of police brutality on UoN students.

Boinnett was taken to task as to why the police used excessive force to quell the protests last week when the University Of Nairobi (UoN) took to the streets demanding the release of their former student leader and now Embakasi MP Babu Owino.

Amateur videos emerged on social media showing General Service Unit officers clobbering students in their halls of residence while others were forced to frog march at gunpoint at the institution.

Already the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations after police allegedly beat up students in the University of Nairobi during the demonstrations.

Boinnett while responding to the claims of police brutality said that "making the students frog jump was part of calming down the situation".

The comment drew angry responses from Kenyans who accused Boinnett of insensitivity and high handedness and disrespect of human rights.
