Government makes changes at KNH, Lily Koros replaced

New management unveiled to steer KNH after surgery blunder

The KNH board met on Saturday and settled on Dr. Thomas Mutie who will serve as the acting Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to his appointment, Mutie was serving at the health facility as Deputy Director Medical Services.

The board also appointed Dr. Peter Masinde to the position of acting director of clinical services, replacing Dr. Bernard Githae who was sent on compulsory leave along with Koros.

A section of Rift Valley legislator led by Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot had opposed the move to send Koros on compulsory leave, reading malice and terming it part of a scheme by corrupt cartels to kick out Koros.

Earlier on, Dr. John Ong’ech had been appointed to the position by health CS Sicily Kariuki but he reportedly declined the offer.

These appointment comes at a time when KNH is facing many scandals that have weakened the reputation of the largest referral hospital in East and Central Africa.

The most recent scandal is the surgery blunder which saw the wrong patient undergo a brain surgery.

In January, members of the public were up in arms after claims emerged that women fresh from labor were constantly attacked by rapists at the facility.
