The Chinese Embassy on Thursday distanced itself from offensive remarks made by one of his citizens captured on video hurling insults at Kenyans and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Liu Jiaqi caused a public uproar with many demanding his immediate deportation, when the video showing him calling Kenyans monkeys went viral.

The Chinese Embassy noted that the remarks made by Jiaqi do not represent that of China's vast majority adding that he had already been punished by his employer.

"The personal talk and personal feeling of this young man does not represent the views of the vast majority of Chinese people," Embassy Spokesman Zhang Gang said.

Zhang added: "The Chinese Embassy always requires the Chinese companies and individuals to abide by the local law, stay and work legally in Kenya, making positive contribution to the friendship and cooperation between China and Kenya."

Jiaqi was arrested and the Immigration department canceled his work permit on racism grounds.

In a statement seen by Pulselive.co.ke, the Immigration said that Jiaqi was being processed for deportation.

"Chinese National by the Name Liu Jiaqi who was captured on video yesterday using abusive words has been arrested. His work permit has been canceled and will be deported on racism grounds," Immigration said.
