Jeff Koinange makes debut on Kikuyu TV

The many sides of Jeff Koinange

Celebrated journalist Jeff Koinange on Monday made his debut on vernacular television after he made a cameo appearance on Inooro TV.

Known for his unique baritone voice with an American accent, few people actually know that Jeff is well conversant in Kikuyu.

During the Monday show at Inooro TV, the journalist had a brief chat about the ongoing World Cup tournament where he also revealed his favourite team - France.

Although his Kikuyu was heavily influenced by the American accent, he managed to communicate with the Inooro TV hosts - and they in turn promised to visit his JKL set for some vernacular banter.

Although growing up in rural Kiambu for nearly twenty years of his life, Jeff appears to have lost touch with local languages - often struggling with Swahili and his own mother tongue.

It remains whether the accent is a matter of design or default given that some other Kenyans, such as Miguna Miguna, left the country at the same age but have maintained a native accent and an impeccable mastery of the vernacular langauge.
