CS Balala’s rude response amid calls for his resignation

Under a hashtag dubbed #BalalaWajibika, a section of the public want Mr. Balala to tender his resignation following the controversial death of 11 rhinos after they were translocated to Tsavo East National Park.
Speaking in Mombasa, the CS told off the critics saying that he was only answerable to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“In my leadership, I decided that I am going to be right and not nice. On the issue of rhinos, I am going to stand for what is right.

“Nobody has appointed me; it is President Uhuru Kenyatta who appointed me, so they can go to hell. I can tell them that. He is the only one who has appointed me here and he knows I have the capacity to run the wildlife docket and nobody is going to intimidate me," he said.
This comes at a time Mr Balala has been summoned by National Assembly Environment and Natural Resources Committee to explain the tragic death of the 11 rhinos.
The committee’s chairman Kareke Mbiuki said that Balala cannot lay the blame on junior officers.
"We saw Mr. Balala supervising the translocation of these rhinos, he was part of it. So at the end of the day, he cannot [blame] junior officers," the legislator said.
Mr. Mbuiki wondered why they were conflicting reports regarding the translocation of the black rhinos.

"We are seeing conflicting [reports] from the former board led by Mr. Richard Leakey, management of Kenya Wildlife Service and from the CS himself.
"But Kenyans want to know what happened and put this matter to rest and know who is responsible," the committee’s chairman Kareke Mbiuki said.
Last week, Dr. Leakey blamed CS Balala for the tragedy noting that there was an order revoking the translocation of the black rhinos.
"The Board noted that there was deep concern about the lack of vegetation in the sanctuary that could sustain rhino and also, the real issue of available and safe water.
"The NO translocation should occur unless these two matters were adequately addressed to the Boards satisfaction. Management was told a firm NO,” he said in a statement.
