Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission raided two homes belonging to Wajir Governor Mohamed Muhamud Abdi on Saturday.

The raid saw the detectives seize documents and materials to aid in investigating allegations that the governor embezzled millions of public funds at the county government.

Reports indicate that among the items seized are financial documents, company ownership documents, county consultancy documents and property ownership documents.

The detectives also arrested the wife of the head of treasury in Wajir county who is alleged to have destroyed important documents related to the corruption scandal probe.

Reports indicate that Sonia Mworia destroyed the evidence recovered at their Lower Kabete home in the ongoing probe over the embezzlement of Ksh 350 million.

The raid comes in the wake of renewed efforts to tame runaway graft at both the national and county government.

The fight is led by President Uhuru Kenyatta who has made it clear that noone will be spared.

Several governors including Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia) Okoth Obado (Migori) and Mohamed Muhamud Abdi (Wajir) are under probe.

Audit reports by Auditor General Edward Ouko revealed massive wastage of public funds at the devolved units with billions unaccounted for.
