Speaker's office raided, left empty

The speaker reported to work only to find an empty office

Homa Bay MCAs engaged in fights at the assembly chambers

Ayoo, who was impeached on November 1, 2018 was forced to purchase a new set of furniture to enable her work for the day.

Accompanied by majority Chief Whip, Richard Ogindo, the speaker bought three plastic chairs and a table and begun executing her duties as usual.

Her previous attempts to access teh office have been met by strong opposition and fistfights among factions of the MCAs who support her and those against her.

She later addressed the press calling for dialogue with the MCAs who ousted her. At the time, she was accompanied by 13 members of the House who seemed to be on her side.

MCAs Arrested

The wrangles in Homa Bay county have seen two ward representatives arrested on assault charges after Ayoo filed a suit in court and recorded a statement with the police.

The two, Majority Leader Walter Muok and Central Karachuonyo MCA Julius Gaya, allegedly attacked the speaker with blows and kicks during an October sitting as they accused her of being biased.

The speaker, at the time, was reading a report before the House concerning ODM leaders within the assembly.

Violence erupted within the assembly chambers and the ceremonial mace also disappeared.

Seven other MCAs were summoned to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices for questioning.

Speaker Ayoo is yet to withdraw her petition before the Employment and Labour Relations court which allowed her to return to the assembly despite her impeachment.
