His address at the Coastal city in Mombasa comes in the wake of a new wave of violence that has seen at least six people killed by an armed gang operating on motorbikes and allegedly donning police uniforms.

Addressing the media on Sunday morning in Mombasa, the IG disclosed that security had been beefed up in the Coastal city with the police pursuing the suspects.

"We have heard that there is a group that is causing trouble in parts of Kisauni. The officers here have strategised and we are committed to ensuring criminal elements are subjected to the full force of the law," said Boinett.

Kisauni sub-county Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto confirmed that at least 6 people had been killed by the terror gang in a span of 2 days.

He disclosed that on Thursday night, the gang murdered four people, including a man and his wife at Kasarani area.

A day later on Friday night, the gang returned and killed two more people at Kidgaya in Junda ward, Kisauni constituency.

Leaders from the region have also expressed their concerns over the security situation with Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo appealing to security agencies to probe the sudden upsurge in insecurity saying “there is more than meets the eye”.

Mbogo also appealed to the public to work hand in hand with the police, admitting that police alone cannot effectively eliminate crime in the area, further proposing that some youth be armed to help in tackling criminal activities.

Following the developments, Kisauni sub-county Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto confirmed has proposed the creation of Kenya Police Reservists in Kisauni, stating that he would table the matter at the next security meeting.
