Inside the Jacque Maribe-Joseph Irungu love story

Maribe's life behind the glare of the public

Jacque Maribe on her engagement to Joseph Jowie Irungu

While to the outside world Maribe and Joseph Irungu were a celebrity pair living the glamorous life, the TV queen had her own challenges to deal with, like anyone else and was doing her best.

Maribe appeared to be effortlessly striking a delicate balance between her successful career, motherhood and relationship with Jowie.

The events on the nigh Monica Kimani was murdered gave the public a rare insight of life behind the walls of her Langata apartments with some expressing concerns over her safety.

Their concerns could best be summarized in one sentence: If Jowie could harm himself by shooting himself (in a suicide attempt), what more could he do and had Maribe been been on the receiving end at any point in their relationship?

It has since emerged that the pair had its fair share of serious disagreements which occasionally reared its ugly face in public.

The worst was on the night of the murder of Monica Kimani which saw Jowie attempt to take his own life according to Maribe’s statement.

On the fateful night, an apologetic Irungu broke down after a disagreement, pleading for forgives before shooting himself.

The pair first met at a Jubilee party event and fell in love shortly afterwards.

In what may seem to some as a rush, the pair got engaged in June, less than a year since their first meeting.

Critics have argued out that Maribe never took the time to know Irungu but rushed things and eventually found herself at the center of a murder that could sink her career.

In papers filed in court, Maribe claims that she is standing trial because of her romantic relationship with co-accused Joseph Irungu alias Jowie.

The only reasons I am standing trial are that I was in love with a person the prosecution have interest in. I allowed him to come live in my house and I allowed him to use my vehicle. There is no witness or forensic material to associate me with the murder,”  Maribe pleaded.

What came as a surprise to the public that Jowie’s parents had not met Maribe and by their own accounts during a recent TV interviews, they were to see Irungu’s fiancé on TV.
