The Chief Justice in a one-page message of condolence to his family described the late as a judge who served “the people of Kenya with distinction and commitment.”
The late, who until his passing on was serving at the High court in the Commercial Division, the CJ said, brought into the judiciary extensive experience as a legal practitioner after serving as a lecturer at the Kenya School of Law.
“He was a leader among his peers. He was pleasant and well-liked by judges, Magistrates and all staff.
His sudden death is a loss not only to his immediate family but to the judiciary Family and country as a whole,” the CJ said.
He added: “I send out deepest condolences to his wife Consolata, his children, the judiciary family and the Kenyan people who he served with dedication.”

The late Onguto was part of the 11 members nominated to take up positions in the Judicial Service Commission by President Uhuru Kenyatta, a fortnight ago.
Among the latest high profile cases he worked on was that involving State House Director of Digital Innovations and Diaspora Communications Dennis Itumbi.
Judge Onguto in his ruling awarded Itumbi Sh5 million after the State House official successfully sued over his arrest and illegal detention in 2012.
