Linus Kiakai has been replaced by award-winning journalist Churchill Otieno who has been elected as the new chairperson of the Kenya Editors’ Guild.
Otieno will take over from Linus Kaikai whose term came to an end today with the later taking to the social media to announce his move.
He currently works with the Nation Media Group that has seen troubled times following the resignation of a number of its top columnists, news anchors and editors.
Samuel Maina from the national broadcaster KBC has been elected to the position of Vice Chair.
He will carry on with the push for media freedom, right to information among other things.
In September 2016, Otieno led Nation Media Group in bagging 3 awards at the Africa Digital Media Awards ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa.
His election comes at a time when State agencies have had numerous crackdowns on Journalists and media houses.
A section of the political divide have also accused different media houses of being biased in their coverage of news and urged their supporters to boycott such media houses.
