Matiang'is Tough Message to Principals Opposing Transfers

Stop Making Unnecessary Noise

The CS said that teachers are trained to teach and therefore should teach anywhere they are posted to work.

“I don’t understand why a principal from Siaya cannot be a principal in Kiambu. I don’t understand why a principal in Loitokitok cannot be a principal in Kisumu,” said Matiang’i.

He added that the reasons Kenya is yet to achieve national integration is the misconception that people must work in their home areas.

The move to transfer the 557 secondary school heads and principals brought about a sense of neglect and unrest between the Teachers Service Commission, and teachers unions.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion accused the TSC of making the transfers before consulting them and threatened to call a national teachers’ strike if the transfers were not reversed.

Among school principals affected by the transfers is Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association chairman Kahi Indimuli who was moved to Machakos Boys from Chavakali while Boaz Owino of Maranda High School in Siaya was transferred to Nyambaria High School in Nyamira County.
