Nairobi governor Mike Sonko stormed Mbagathi hospital on Saturday at 4:38 am in a visit that caught the hospital’s administration unawares.

During the visit, Sonko raised issues with the hospital’s staff over electrical and window repairs that were long overdue.

The Nairobi County boss interacted with patients who expressed satisfaction at the services being offered at the facility.

The visit comes in the wake of a similar one at Pumwani Maternity Hospital which exposed the deplorable state of the hospital with basic facilities lacking and bodies of infants stored in boxes.

Earlier in the day at 3:14 AM, Sonko visited Pumwani hospital to monitor progress at the facility since his first impromptu visit that exposed glaring loopholes and saw the county health executive suspended.

His visit at Pumwani came in handy to those in the waiting area as he dished out money after they confided in him that they lacked fare.

The governor shared the progress on his social media accounts where he wrote: “Another impromptu visit at Pumwani maternity hospital 3:14am. 70 successful neonatal deliveries with no fatalities at all.”

On 22 Sep 2018, Sonko took to social media, renaming the facility after himself and announcing new plans to expand the facility with the construction of an Ultra-Modern Sonko Pumwani Women's Hospital and College of Nursing and Midwifery complex.

He also announced a new partnership with Aga Khan University Hospital that would see Doctors and Nurses come in to support at the Pumwani hospital.
