3 new ways gangs are using to rob as criminal gangs take over Nairobi streets

New wave of crime hits Nairobi

Their prime targets include people leaving ATMs, Mpesa Forex bureaus and pedestrians with anything to loot.

Leading the recent wave of crime is the notorious 40 brothers gang which operates smoothly in teams.

Like wolves on a hunt, the gang operates in packs of ten or more and once a victim is identified, they zero in on the victim, leaving no room for escape.

Within seconds, the victim’s pockets are emptied and everything of value taken away before the gang breaks into smaller groups, melting into the crowded streets.

The gang is believed to have been involved in a series of daylight robberies in the crowded streets of Nairobi, with many questioning the effectiveness of police patrols.

Unsuspecting pedestrian waking between buses parked along city streets are also a prime suspect as the wave of robberies sweeps across Nairobi.

The criminals block their victims between stationary buses, blocked from public view and proceed to collect anything of value before subliming into the crowded streets with the loot.

A gang operating on motorcycles is also reigning terror on Nairobi streets.

Once a target is identified, two gang members on a motor cycle ride past the victim, snatching anything of value in a matter of seconds before speeding off.

This ranges from handbags, phones, watches, rings and spectacles.

Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome confirmed that the police have launched a crackdown on criminals operating within the city following a surge in crime.
