Kenyans celebrate unexpected "gift"

This happened after a road accident

Naivasha residents received sudden windfall after a lorry ferrying beer crashed on Sunday in Karai business centre.

People on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway scrambled for the unguarded alcohol from the truck- paralysing traffic along the road.

Traffic officers helplessly watched in the distance as Kenyans fought for the liquor.

The truck was carrying dozens of crates from Nairobi to Naivasha.

"The driver was trying to avoid hitting an incoming car when the lorry lost control and veered off the road before rolling," reported a witness to The Star.

"On impact, the beers were thrown out of the lorry leading to the scramble by the members of the public."

This after eight people perished in two separate accidents along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

In the first accident, seven people travelling in a Toyota Hearse funeral van died on the spot. The other was rushed to Sultan-Hamud sub-county hospital in critical condition after the collision.

The accident happened in the morning in Sultan Hamud.

The truck that was Nairobi bound was overtaking when it met the van.

In the second accident, one person in A Toyota Hilux died instantly after his vehicle collided with a truck at Sekeleni area near Makindu town along Mombasa-Nairobi highway with others nursing injuries at Makindu sub-county hospital.
