Kenya’s movers and shakers who lost billions in on-going demolitions

The phrase the rich also cry is sinking home to a section of Kenya’s high and mighty, thought to be untouchable by some who are counting losses in the on-going demolitions of buildings constructed on riparian land, road reserves and public land.

Leading the pack of those counting losses is Bimal Shah who saw the multi-million Ukay center tumble as bulldozers moved in.

Kental Enterprises Limited had moved to court in a bid to save the property but reportedly failed to deliver court orders stopping the demolitions in time.

Ramesh Chandara Govind is staring at probably the greatest loss in his life as a section of the multi-million Taj mall is set to be brought down.

The property in question was the subject of a protracted court battle during the construction of the Outring road. Court orders spared it even as the owner recorded millions of shillings in losses as tenants vacated the property.

The owner has since spent millions in renovating the property but this could amount to nothing as the building is earmarked for demolitions as it stands on a road reserve.

Dansteve Ragira and his brother former Bobasi MP) Stephen Manoti, saw their investment valued at close to 2 billion crash as bulldozers descended on Southend Mall located along Langata road.

The Multibillion Visa Oshwal Center is facing its last days after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko made it clear that it would not be spared in the ongoing demolitions.

Sonko confirmed that "We have already issued a notice to Oshwal management to vacate their property. We don't want to be malicious, we shall give them enough time to remove their belongings".
