Obado freed in gun possession case

DPP suffers major setback

Magistrate Joyce Gandani ruled that there was no compelling reason to hold the Governor as the prosecution had enough time to prepare its case, and that Obado was unlikely to interfere in the investigation as he was already barred from accessing his home.

The Migori County boss was released on a Sh200,00 cash bail, and a bond of Sh500,000 or a surety of the same amount.

The prosecution had asked the magistrate for permission to hold Obado for fifteen more days as they completed investigations, a request vehemently opposed by the governor's legal team.

The magistrate agreed with the defence that there was no evidence suggesting the suspect would abscond, given his high place in society.

Gandani added that the DPP and the DCI would have the authority to question Obado at any time they deemed it necessary.

The governor was, however, required to appear before the DCI after every two weeks.

The development came a day after Obado's family said they read political mischief in the recent legal troubles facing their kin.

The Migori county boss is facing murder charges against his deceased lover Sharon Otieno and is also subject of an investigation by the EACC.
