Why brother of prominent politician refused to board plane that killed 10

New details are emerging

Peter Mwangale, a brother to the late prominent politician Elijah Mwangale, revealed that he expressed his concerns over the heavy rains and fog that was prevalent at the time the plane was supposed to take off.

According to Peter, Fly Sax airline officials declined to listen to his concerns and after they insisted on continuing with the flight, he declined to board the plane and his luggage returned to him.

"It was raining heavily and Kitale town was very foggy. My instinct relayed to me information that Eldoret, Burnt Forest, Timboroa and Longonot could be worse.”

“I told the crew that I was not boarding the plane and they decided to hand back my luggage only to be told after an hour that the plane had disappeared," he recalled.

The 80-year old farmer was to later learn of the missing plane whose wreckage was discovered on Thursday morning.

True to Peter’s account, it has now emerged that the plane’s trip from Kitale to Nairobi was dogged by bad weather which necessitated a change in routes.

The Cessna C208was initially supposed to land at Nairobi Wilson Airport but the controller at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) asked the pilots to take a turn and head there instead.

As fate would have it, the controller lost communication with the pilots after they took the turn heading to the Aberdare forest.

The plane would later hit the elephant hill before tumbling down 500 feet.
