IEBC lawyer’s “life in danger” after Supreme Court submission

The lawyer had passionately pleaded IEBC's case before the Supreme Court

According to the area OCPD Paul Kiarie, who spoke to The Standard, police spent the whole day at the homestead in Usigu Division, Bondo sub-county investigating the sources of the alleged threat.

Four Police officers have been stationed at the homestead as a way of beefing up security.

Mr. Kiarie said police have received intelligence indicating that some people were planning to attack and destroy property at the home because of Lumumba’s remarks during the hearing of the presidential petition at the Supreme Court.

Lumumba, who was representing IEBC in the case, has been viewed as a traitor by some NASA supporters and has been heavily trolled on social media by the alliance’s supporters since Monday evening after he represented his client.

Unknown people hurled stones into the compound of the lawyer on Monday night soon after he made his submissions at the court in which he declared the NASA petition “dead on arrival” and asked the Supreme Court to dismiss it.

The worker added that close friends who live in the locality had called to inform him of an alleged plot by some youths to burn the home down if the Supreme Court upholds President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.
