Principal arrested for raping KCSE candidate, just before she sat for exam

Shameful behaviour

The victim told police that her principal had offered her a lift on Sunday evening as she was going to see her parents at home.

Along the way, she said she lost consciousness only to wake up in an abandoned borehole.

A medical examination showed she had been raped and the principal was arrested early on Monday morning.

The girl was facilitated to sit her examination at a different school.

Journalists who covered the incident were shocked when Abdi was arraigned at the Wajir Law Courts, only to be received by a crowd of supporters.

The teacher’s supporters harassed journalists and prevented them from taking photos of the suspected rapist.

Abdi was later released on Sh300,000 bond after denying rape charges.

The Teacher Service Commission recently developed strict guidelines meant to punish teachers who either rape or engage in carnal relations with students.
