Joho humiliated after unveiling new plan

This is not the first time Joho's plan has been rejected.

Pwani Ni Kenya, a lobby group which was formed to counter the then growing and the Mombasa Republican Council, has told off Mr Joho, after the ODM Deputy party leader called for striking out the coastal region in the ongoing secession talks.

“The two leaders have failed the most in the six counties at the Coast yet they are now the ones leading the secession call,” Pwani Ni Kenya Chairman Mr Alex Kasuku said.

The backlash by the lobby group comes hardly a week after Mr Joho met with leaders from the United Kingdom who poked holes in the secession talk and urged the Coast leaders to embrace dialogue in ending what is “perceived as exclusion from the national government.’”

“Let leaders be sincere with those they represent. They need numbers in Parliament to push for secession. As we speak, the region lacks the numbers in the National Assembly," Mr Kasuku said.

He argued that unless the leaders would resolve to ‘going to the bush’ as the Ugandan leader Mr Joseph Konny, then secession would not be achieved.

Mombasa’s Joho and Kilifi’s Kingi cited economic and political marginalization of the region as their main reason for the secession push, a talk that has received a major talk boost even in Nyanza regions, with Homa Bay Town Constituency lawmaker Mr Peter Kaluma drafting the secession bill that seeks to split 40 counties from Kenya.

On the other hand, the secession call has since received opposition from Jubilee politicians, envoys and a section of the civil society.

The lobby group has vowed to conduct nationwide meetings to dilute the impact that has been created by the opposition to create a new nation in the secession drive.
