Raila and Uhuru leave for high profile trips

Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga flew out on Friday for high profile international trips

President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition Chief Raila Odinga left the country on Friday for high profile meetings.

The President flew to the US where he will hold talks with US President Donald Trump.

Bilateral trade is expected to be part of the agenda during the meeting that comEs a few days before the President holds talks with UK’s Theresa May and China’s president.

A statement from the President's office read in part that "Besides trade and regional security, President Kenyatta and President Trump will discuss ways of strengthening the blossoming Kenya-US relations focusing on the two nations’ shared democratic values and mutual interests."

Kenya has enjoyed strong bilateral relations with the US with direct flights from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to New York set to commence in October this year.

Raila on the other hand headed to Germany where he will be for a week holding meetings and touring the country.

Details on Odinga’s itinerary remained scanty but the former premier is expected to meet business and political leaders in Germany as well as Kenyans living in the country.

The NASA leader’s profile has been elevated following the March 09 handshake with Kenya’s foreign missions directed to treat Odinga as a senior government representative.

This has seen Ambassadors and High Commissioners receiving Odinga in person during his visit to UK, India and South Africa.
