Days after being declared the winner in the just concluded General Election, President Uhuru Kenyatta will now have a new Aide-de-Camp (ADC).
Mr. Kenyatta’s former aide Lt. Col Peter Njiru was replaced by Lt. Col Victor Mburu.
Lt. Col Njiru will be traveling abroad for further military studies and will not be able to continue in his capacity as the President’s aide.
The new ADC assumed his roles immediately and was on Sunday spotted with President Kenyatta at St. Joseph Church in Ngong Kajiado County, where the Head of State was attending a service.
ADC's Role
An aide-de-camp is a ceremonial role normally mistaken with that of a body guard.
The ADC’s work involves going before the President when he gets out of State House and waits to open the door for the him.
He stands at attention and salutes while the President sits down. He also stands behind the President while making an address.
The aide closes the door and rides in the front passenger seat unless the Head of State directs otherwise.
The aide is also the man who carries the President’s personal items such as speeches and receives gifts on behalf of the President.
