The Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee (PAIC) wants Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua arrested after he snubbed its summons.
The PAIC, whose members had traveled to Machakos for the meeting with Dr Mutua, was forced to cancel the day's session after the Governor failed to turn up.
Furthermore, the Machakos County Assembly declined to provide a venue for the session, farther contributing to the failed meeting.
"We’re not able to host the Senate as informed and therefore request that you reschedule the same to any date after October 6th," a letter from the assembly's clerk read in part.
Machakos Senator to blame - Governor Mutua
Governor Mutua has maintained that the investigations by PAIC had been compromised by Machakos Senator Boniface Kabaka.
"In accordance with Senate Standing Order Number 198, we reiterate our contention that Senator Kabaka not to sit during our appearance because of conflict of interest,” the governor said in a letter to the clerk of the Senate dated September 26.
“That the said senator was a member of Machakos County executive [and] his oversight on matters he may have participated [in] as county attorney constitutes an obvious conflict," the governor stated.
PAIC is on a three-day tour of the Ukambani counties where they expect to meet with two more Governors, Charity Ngilu and Prof. Kivutha Kibwana over audit queries.
