Nasa leader Raila Odinga has told off President Uhuru Kenyatta over his treatment of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.

Joho was on Wednesday blocked by security officers from attending the grand launch of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in Miritini, Mombasa.

Raila said it was unacceptable for Joho to be blocked from attending the function and yet it was happening in his own county.

Speaking to journalists, Raila said Joho as the county boss should be prevented from attending functions in his county.

"It is very unfortunate that a Kenyan should be barred from attending the project, since its Kenyans who are going to use the railway. Joho is a Governor and this project is being launched at his own country. He should be the one to welcome the President." Raila said.

Raila welcomed the decision by Uhuru on punishment for those found culpable of vandalising the SGR.

Uhuru said he will sign an executive order for the execution of those who will be found guilty of vandalising the SGR.

However, Raila warned Uhuru against using the SGR to gain support for the August general elections.

"We in ODM and NASA welcome the project and don't oppose it. But he should not use the railway as a tool for campaigns," he said.

Joho has been at loggerheads with Uhuru in the past few months over development projects done by the national government in Mombasa.

In March, Joho was stopped by security officers from attending President Uhuru Kenyatta's launch of Mtongwe Ferry services.

The President later said that he is not Joho’s wife for him to be constantly following him around whenever he is at the Coast.
