Uhuru lowers prices for SGR train tickets

President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced new price tickets making them affordable for all Kenyans.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced the immediate reduction of prices for Standard Gauge Railway (SGR)  train tickets.

Initially, the price for Economy class had been Sh900 but has now been reduced to Sh700 from Mombasa to Nairobi while First Class remains at Sh3000.

During the launch, the President also warned those who vandalized SGR that there would be consequences as stipulated by the law.

“I will sign a law to have those who destroy infrastructure projects face death penalties. Today is the first day and we must experience difficulties. Tuungane mikono tusikuwe walalamishi,” Kenyatta stated.

The SGR train has also been named Madaraka Express.

The intercity train will operate between Nairobi and Mombasa while the county one will make stops at the intermediate stations of Mariakani, Maiseny, Voi, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi, Emali and Athi River.
