The Congress Woman was a refugee in Kenya!

Moses Kuria’s scathing response to US Congress Woman after tweet on leaving Kenya as refugee

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has sent a scathing response to newly elected US Congress Woman Ilhan Omar after her tweet on leaving Kenya as a refugee, 23 years ago.

This was after the Congress Woman wrote a tweet saying that she was using the same airport she used to get into the United States from a refugee camp in Kenya.

The only difference this time was that she was going for her swearing in as a Congress Woman.

23 years ago, from a refugee camp in Kenya, my father and I arrived at an airport in Washington DC. Today, we return to that same airport on the eve of my swearing in as the first Somali-American in Congress. #Hope #Ilhan,” she wrote.

Moses Kuria responded to Congress Woman Ilhan saying he hoped the next Somali-American Congress Woman went to the US directly from Somalia and not a refugee camp in Kenya.

The MP, who has been vocal on the closure of Dadaab Refugee Camp, went ahead to say that the camp could not be kept open because she was now a Congress Woman.

I hope the next Somali American Congressman or woman will depart from Siad Barre International Airport in Mogadishu. We can’t keep Dadaab open for that. We didn’t win a supply contract from US Congress,” Responded Moses Kuria.

Ilhan elected to US Congress

This comes a few weeks after Ilhan Omar, a former refugee in Kenya was elected to serve in the United States Congress.

The 36-year-old, who immigrated to the United States as a teenager, beat Republican Jennifer Zielinski to take Ellison’s seat.

Omar’s family fled Somalia in 1991 due to civil war. She spent four years in Dadaab until her family was cleared to emigrate to the US.
