Impeachment motion

33 of 47 members of the Nyeri county assembly (MCAs) signed in support of the governor’s impeachment.

The Kimathi MCA Stephen Mwaniki sponsored motion was allegedly meant to discipline the governor for failing to implement development projects that they had proposed.

The MCAs also accused the late of embezzling Sh6 billion meant for development in the county among other accounts of gross misconduct of the constitution and dictatorial tendencies. On his part, however, the late had accused the MCAs of attempting to “blackmail him by proposing projects not approved by the public”.

Six months ago, a one Susan Wanjiru argued to have cohabited with the late governor for six years. The two allegedly got one child and she took the late to court demanding for upkeep amounting to Sh19 million.

Wanjiru claimed in her court papers that during their stay together from 2008 to 2013, the late governor took care of all the expenses but after they broke up in January 28, 2013, he neglected them.

The woman demanded the amounts to be backdated thus: 2013 - Sh5.7 million, 2014 – Sh4.6 million, 2015 – Sh4.6 million and in 2016 – Sh3.1 million.

She complained that her attempts to access the late were futile owing to the security details that surrounded him.

Until his death today, a showdown was pilling up between the Nyeri MCAs and the county’s executive over a proposed Sh4.8 billion supplementary budget.

The appropriations budget, already tabled, sought to increase the late Gachagua's budget allocation.  Estimates indicate that the late wanted more money for his airfare and purchase of a Sh13 million vehicle.
