Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi on Thursday presented himself to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to answer questions regarding suspected hate speech remarks he made a few days ago.

I am already here at National Cohesion and Integration Commission headquarters after I was summoned to appear before the commission. I guess I am being called upon to clarify my recent comments I made about a certain community,” Sudi said in a statement posted on social media.

The sharp-tongued legislator recently caused controversy after making suspected hate remarks that suggested that there were only two communities that are needed to create peace in Kenya.

He claimed that other communities “can be controlled” as they are not fighters.

The speech also caused calls for the MP to arrested and charged with hate speech.

Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut was among those who condemned the sentiments made by his Kapseret counterpart – saying Sudi did not speak for the Kalenjin community.

Oscar Sudi trying to please his master has no audacity to speak on behalf of us kalenjins who are not ready to fight anyone even a statue of a kikuyu figure. If Oscar sudi wants war let him arm his children and wife then deploy them to Kisimayu for half a day,” Chepkut stated.

Musician Suzanna Owiyo called on the media to shun Sudi and called for the MP to be jailed.

“The filth coming from Oscar Sudi ‘s mouth is wanting. Media should give such leaders total black out. Why encourage hate speech! Leaders like him should rot in jail,” Owiyo wrote on Twitter.

Sudi will be joining a long list of politicians who have faced the NCIC over suspected hate remarks.

The constitutional commission, led by Francis Ole Kaparo, has been accused of “lacking teeth” over its inability to offer punitive action against those found to spread hate.
