United Nation’s message after Uhuru-Raila Deal

UN sends message to Uhuru and Raila

In a statement, Mr. Guterres lauded the two leaders for committing to work together to build a united Kenya.

"The Secretary-General welcomes the statement issued jointly by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Raila Odinga on 9 March 2018 declaring their commitment to work together to strengthen the unity of the country for all Kenyans,” the statement read in part.

The UN Secretary-General further promised to support President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga in their efforts to consolidate peace, stability and development in the country.

Mr Kenyatta and the former Prime Minister met on Friday last week at Harambee House. After the closed-door meeting, the two told the Nation that they had resolved to work together to bring unity and resolve the conflict.

In his speech, Mr Kenyatta mentioned: “We have a responsibility as leaders to be able to come together to discuss these issues and to find solutions that will bind our people, that will unify the country, that will give us a lifecycle that is beyond the five [election] years”.

At the same time the NASA leader noted: "We have resolved that the future our nation is more important than any sole individual".
